Back to work? Relieve your stress.

The start of the working year can be stressful for many, especially if you did not have a restful and rejuvenating break.

Due to our modern day lifestyle, switching off is a real challenge. We are continuously “wired” and the long term effects of being stressed are detrimental to our health.

Recent statistics show that 70% of GP visits here in New Zealand are stress related.

So, what effect does stress have on you?

Everyone responds differently to stress and your symptoms may be different from someone else. Here are some signs to look for:

  • Not eating or eating too much

  • Feeling like you have no control

  • Forgetfulness

  • Headaches

  • Lack of energy

  • Lack of focus

  • Trouble getting things done

  • Poor self esteem

  • Short temper

  • Trouble sleeping

  • Upset stomach

  • Back pain

  • General aches and pains

The body responds to stress by releasing stress hormones. These hormones make blood pressure, heart rate, and blood sugar levels go up. Long-term stress can help cause a variety of health problems, including:

  • Mental health disorders, like depression and anxiety

  • Obesity

  • Heart disease

  • High blood pressure

  • Abnormal heart beats

  • Menstrual problems

  • Acne and other skin problems

With Volo Wellbeing Stress Spray we utilise the unique properties of traditional herbs, Bach Flower Essences and homeopathic ingredients to support an individual natural state of a positive wellbeing.

Below we have highlighted some key ingredients found in our formulation:

Withania Somnifera (Ashwagandha)

Ashwagandha is a herbal shrub that grows in India, the Middle East and parts of Africa. It has been part of Ayurvedic natural (Indian) medicine for thousands of years. The plants appearance looks quite like that of a tomato. As a herb it is meant to promote longevity, vitality and happiness.

It is now gaining popularity in western culture as a natural alternative to traditional pharmaceutical drugs such as lorazepam due to it’s calming effects on the mind and nervous system thanks to scientific tests being conducted in the past.

Studies on humans have shown it has been proven effective to reduce stress, anxiety and depression. Other uses for Ashwagandha have shown in some cases it is effective for increasing fertility and reproductive health in men in addition to muscle mass, health and fatigue. People also use this herb to increase mental clarity, concentration and performance in their day to day life. Some people also use this supplement to lower their blood pressure.

Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Liquorice)

Liquorice is one of the most widely used medicinal plants, both in Western and Eastern herbal medicine and has at least 3000 years of history as a medicinal plant. It was used in Egypt as a drink for Pharos and as an ingredient in ancient Greece in many of their natural remedys such as cough medicine because of its anti-inflammatory effects. Liquorice root is an apoptogenic herb that helps the body react to stress by regulating hormones.

It comes from the root of the liquorice plant and is native to Western Asia and Southern Europe. The roots contain a natural sweetener called glycyrrhizin. We use Liquorice as a natural sweeter and to improve the taste of the products.

Though favoured for its sweet taste, liquorice root is also known to reduce anxiety because of the effects on the kidneys and adrenal glands which help with long lasting stress. Liquorice root has been found to regulate cortisol levels which is a stress hormone. Health practitioners believe Liquorice can help support other health conditions such as heartburn, gastric ulcer, eczema, menstrual cramps and menopause.

In traditional Chinese medicine, liquorice root is referred to as Gan Zao.

Phosphoric Acid

Phosphoric Acid is a colourless liquid made from the mineral Phosphorus which the body produces and is found in the body naturally. It is found in many plants, foods and drinks. It helps the body’s muscles recover after extensive workouts to repair damaged muscle tissue. It also plays a pivotal role in body growth and helps support kidney function and the way the body uses and stores energy.

Phosphoric Acid is common in many soft drinks to increase flavour. It can also be used as a natural preservative which is why we use it. Other benefits of Phosphoric Acid are that it can be used as a remedy for burnout, depression and people that are over working themselves and feeling overwhelmed. Benefits of taking Phosphoric acid are to assist with fatigue and improve concentration.
